While independent venues across the globe struggle to survive, State Street Pub lives on as an iconic Indianapolis gem that gives a stage to an eclectic mix of underground artists to express themselves and build community.
Summary: Through candid interviews with key figures alongside archival footage of performances and events, Far Out Frequencies documents the story of State Street Pub—its history, its cultural impact in Indianapolis and beyond, and the vital role a small music venue can play in giving voice to an eclectic community of artists. Maintaining a space this authentic and accessible is increasingly difficult, as “third places” and independent venues across the country face mounting financial pressures in the post-COVID era. Today, SSP persists through the unwavering support of its community and the extraordinary dedication of its owner, experimental electronic musician Mark Tester.
